Salish Fusion Knitwear on Dragon's Den

In March 2012 we got the crazy idea to audition our new business to the CBC Dragon's Den producers which were at the Laurel Point Inn for a day.

Well the result wasn't so bad a week later we were called and told we could pitch to the Dragon's in Toronto, ON at the end of April. We accepted the challenge and went about prepping for the host of prying questions we could be asked.

Of course we know the result, but we can't tell you, so you will just have to watch the show to see what happened!

A Sweater for Justin Trudeau

In the early 1980's when Pierre Elliot Trudeau was Canada's Prime Minister, his Christmas card featured his sons, (including Justin, current Member of Parliament and candidate for the leader of Liberal Party of Canada) and Pierre in a traditional Cowichan sweater.

There is a long history of gifting sweaters to politicians, foreign dignitaries and Hollywood stars, Trudeau was not the first Canadian Prime Minister to wear one and we wanted to ensure his son, who is attempting to follow in his footsteps as party leader and Prime Minister, also had a sweater.

Coast Salish sharing their traditions at UVic

Members of the Tsartlip First Nation worked with students at the University of Victoria this past semester to teach and share the basic art form of traditional Coast Salish knitting.

Tsartlip First Nation knitters May Sam, Joni Olsen and Adam Olsen  and knitter and author Sylvia Olsen, taught students each week throughout the term and saw the class through completing a project with the class' professor Dr. Andrea Walsh.
